Celtic Wolf Bracers by griffarion Celtic Wolf Bracers by griffarion
These were/are the third pair of bracers I made. They are made of a lighter wight leather than the first two (which were similar style). The lighter leather weight makes this particular pair NOT SCA legal, however the design CAN be put on bracers that ARE SCA legal.
The wolf is my own design with inspiration gathered from a number of sources.
I made this pair for shewolfdanielle (check out her dev. art too...)
This deisgn was also put on a commissioned pair of bracers and has now been added to the regular line of available carvings on Purple Dragon Leather bracers.

Depends. I used to get it from a friend and locally owned leather store in Knoxville, TN. Sadly she had to close her shop as it wasn't making her enough money to warrant staying open. Theese days I mostly get my leather from Tandy Leather Factory, though IF I ever find another locally owned shop, I will give them ALL of my business...

could someone tell me what SCA is?

SCA is short for the Society of Creative Anachronisms (visit sca.org for more in depth info than what I give here). In short it is an organization that seeks to Re-enact life from the 1700's back to the Greeks and Romans, though typically MOST people chose to portray Personas from the "Middle Ages". It is considered by most as a Live Action Role Play (or LARP), and others as solid Historical Reenactment... It all depends on what you (and your local group/chapter/shire) put into it...

They actually DO work quite nicely as archery braces, though I have developed an Offset style that keeps the laces out of the way of the Bow String, so as to reduce ANY issues...

it's a shame that they arent legal on the field but their so pretty it'd be a same to smack them around anyhow lol.

This particular pair is not field legal for SCA though they do grant 1 point (light leather) protection in Amtgard (a Boffer LARP).

As for smacking them around, I have a couple of pairs that ARE floating around on both SCA and Amtgard fields and holding up quite nicely to the rigors of active fighting.

If you want SCA legal, I can make this same style to those specifications. That is NOT a problem :-).

How much for a pair of light ones with that color? I have a handfasting on the 4th and the company I was getting my first pair just informed me, after I ordered, that they're out of my size...

I am so terribly sorry. I have not been on here in a very long time. I assume your handfasting was the 4th of October. However, if you are still interested in having a pair of the bracers, I charge Forty dollars ($40) for that particular style.

Again, my apologies for being painfully slow to respond.

how much would it cost to commission a pair bracers similar to those?

:icongriffarion:

Sorry it has taken so long for me to respond.

This particular pair I sell for $60, if there is a different design you would like on the bracers, or want a different thickness of leather that will affect the price. I have also started making a new style that buckle as opposed to lacing. I have not yet got a picture of those yet, though.

You said similar. What kind of differences would you like?

i love the Celtic wolf design, i was wondering about color of the leather and how buckles would effect the price.

Color won't have any affect on price. The buckles... I am working on three different buckle designs, one is more like a button (which I have a prototype, and whose picture will be up in a day or two). The second is done like a double ring belt, and the third is traditional buckles. Honestly I haaven't yet figured out the price increase for the second two. The button style, will probably mean a $16 increase. Though I am not positive, because I haven't really sat down and done the hard math, just some rough guesstimates.

Okay, in order to give you an adequate price estimate, I need a couple things from you: 1)Would you like four or five buckles? 2)Whichever hand you do NOT write with, the measurement around your wrist and the measurement around your forearm seven inches up from your wrist (unless you have short arms, or really long arms, then the measurement around the thickest part of your forearm, and the distance from there to your wrist). Once I have that information I should be able to get you a price within a week, and we can go from there.

So these are, what, 10oz leather?

Do you fight SCA? What Kingdom?

:icongriffarion:

No. Not 10oz. I believe that they are an 8oz leather, but I honestly don't remember. It's been so long since I made them and the owner is no longer speaking to me, so I can't check for you. But I could make them in a 10 or heavier.

I do not actually fight SCA. But I have friends both in Thor's Mountain and Rising Stone (kingdom of Merdies)

Note on the picture...

I'd unlace one of them and lay it out so that the whole design is more clearly visible. You've lost some of it here. If you want you can get the bracers from me when we get back to Knoxville.
